It will only be nine years, but finally I’m going to release a second book. Quick, alert the media.

I’m happy to write / report / announce that I’ve signed a contract with Skyhorse Publishing in New York to write a book entitled… wait for it… The American’s Guide to the 2018 World Cup. Yes I am aware of the irony of a Northern Irishman composing a book with this title.

I have 18 months to write it (actually since I’ve signed the contract I think I’ve almost lost another month – see! It goes by so quick!) but I will probably start getting some thoughts together fairly soon. With the chapters I have in mind though, their nature is that they can’t possibly be finished (honest!) until the qualification process is complete and the draw is made for the finals, which takes place in the summer of 2018 in Russia. I doubt I’ll be going.

My first book came out in 2009 so it will have taken close to a decade to release a second. Even Ozzy puts out albums quicker than that. But some things are worth waiting for, right? And hopefully so will this book.

Talking of big international football / soccer tournaments, today marks five weeks until I fly off to southern France for the Euros. It’s hard to overstate how excited I am about this. It’s been 34 years since I’ve seen Northern Ireland at an international competition, and I’m going with some old friends, traveling around France and watching football. It’s going to be great.

So I’ve a few things to look forward to. Fingers crossed everything works out on all levels.

Take care and until the next time, thanks for stopping by…
