That was a fantastic World Cup wasn’t it?

Lots of drama and excitement and entertainment and action and goals and thrills and spills and what have you. Lovely stuff.

I saw some of just about every game, missed a couple here and there, but I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it. Even the low-scoring matches were tense and nerve-shredding for the most part – well, as much as they can be when you don’t give a f**k about the two countries you are watching.

I ended up writing more than 20 articles for the Advocate which was great. Good exposure, a few dollars coming in over the summer, everyone’s a winner and Bob’s your uncle and so on and so forth. I was on TV twice and on the radio a bunch of times as well, so it was all rather enjoyable. Pity we have to wait four years now for the next one.

In other news, I’m teaching a writing course on the North Shore and I’ve been driving over there every Monday night. It’s close on 50 miles away and an hour each way, but it’s been interesting getting out of my comfort zone so to speak. I like the look of Covington, it’s still too far away from “civilisation” for me to live in, but I would like to go across for the weekend or something and explore it a bit. Shouldn’t take too long…

Pretty soon it’s going to be a whirlwind of trips and camps and before you know it, Nicola is back to school and I’m once more running in the park with teenage girls.

So enjoy the last of the summer wine everyone. Til next time…
